The Company


Total Marine Services was established in 1986 by Brent and June Shipman and since then the company has grown to become the largest marine-based construction company in New Zealand.

Total Marine Services specialise in all aspects related to marine construction and maritime activities. The diverse background of the staff and management compliment the range of services offered which have included the construction of a 600 tonne slipway, fixed timber and concrete structures, boat ramps, marinas, emergency and salvage operations, pile driving, and dredging.

In 2006 Tim Yeates of Marine Contracting in Opua joined Total Marine Services which provided a permanent presence for Total Marine Services in both the greater Auckland and Northland regions. Brent and Tim are Directors of the company and have active roles in the day to day running of projects and are often seen on the various construction sites. The hands-on approach gives direct contact between clients, staff and the management during the daily operations..

Whilst Total Marine Services predominantly operate in and around the Waitemata Harbour, Hauraki Gulf and the Bay of Islands projects have also been undertaken in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Omaha, Whangaroa, Whitianga, Wanganui, Napier, Wellington, Motueka, Hong Kong and Spain. Team New Zealand contracted Brent to oversee the construction and installation of their marina and travel lift pier in Valencia, Spain for their 2007 challenge for the America's Cup.

In 2006 Total Marine Services in conjunction with its business partners formed a new subsidiary company, Total Floating Systems Limited to supply and manufacture pre-cast concrete pontoons. Together Total Marine Services and Total Floating Systems can provide a complete design, engineering and construction solution for marinas and other floating concrete structures.

Total Marine Services have established a reputation of quality and performance with a number of local, maritime and regional government bodies. Total Marine Services have been responsible for, and have credible knowledge in the processes of resource and building consents and ensuring compliance. Consultation with the client and regular communication gives peace of mind during the consent and construction process.

Total Floating Systems was established in 2006 to manufacture pre-cast concrete floating pontoons, beams, and panels. Whilst the company is new to the pre-cast manufacture market, it can boast to have a number of staff with a wealth of experience and knowledge in casting concrete pontoons.
Total Floating Systems can custom make floating pontoons to suit any size and shape and is constantly thriving to develop new ideas for floating pontoons to assist marina operators and benefit boat users. Together, Total Floating Systems and Total Marine Services can offer clients a complete design build solution for any marina or marine based structure.

Affiliations


Total Marine Services have an extensive array of resources and equipment, to carry out any maritime related project. Along with a successful reputation of "getting the job done", Total Marine Services have established an ongoing working relationships and understandings with a number of organisations and companies:

Auckland International Airport – to assist with the salvage of craft from the Manukau Harbour or other off shore locations.
Civil Aviation Authority – to assist with the salvage of craft from the Waitemata Harbour, or other off shore locations.
Auckland Council – to provide floating plant and services in marine disaster situations such as oil spills.
Ports of Auckland – to provide maintenance of navigational aids such as buoys and beacons in the Harbours.
Marina operators – various marina operators around the North Island entrust TMS to carry out various maintenance works.

Total Marine Services Limited is an active member of the Marina Operators Association, keeping abreast of the latest improvements to marinas, and introducing new products and services on the market.
